Drawing & Mixed Media
About the Course
Would you like to connect more deeply with nature while finding your unique creative voice, or do you just need to get out of your head and into a more intuitive place? The immersive observation required in drawing and painting can help to enrich our experience of place and time. The creative process itself provides the means to connect and revitalize, bringing us more deeply into the present moment.
This all-levels workshop will also help you develop a more compassionate understanding of the various stages in creating a work of art. We often move into and out of intuitive and analytical phases as we create. It is during the latter when our inner critic becomes loudest and we can become ‘stuck’. As you learn to recognise where you are in your head and make choices based on what ‘is’, rather than what you ‘expect should be’, you will learn to work through and with these more challenging moments. Drawing and mark making will be our jumping off point and our foundation, as we move into a variety of media, including collage, printmaking and painting.
As you create a small body of work over four days of fun and fresh air, core principles can help to guide your process and banish your harsh inner critic. These include the use of contrast and value to guide the viewers eye and create more effective compositions both figurative and abstract. You will also learn about colour mixing and glazing.
Meanwhile the beautiful boreal forest setting offers you endless inspiration.
COST: $595 +GST per course plus materials fees and optional meal plan.

Your Instructors:
Miranda Jones
Miranda has been making art all her life, however, a move to Canada from Australia enabled her to transition into more consistent creative employment and learning opportunities. She completed her MFA at the University of Saskatchewan in 1989 and has been creating, exhibiting and teaching art ever since. Known for her signature use of vibrant colour and metallic leaf, Miranda’s inspiration comes primarily from nature and the outdoors. Her love of Nordic skiing, cycling and swimming offers wonderful opportunities to immerse herself in nature. Teaching has also become an important part of her creative process. Not only does she believe that creative learning is vital to our health and well being, she has found teaching can often be as rewarding and inspiring as making her own work. Miranda works out of the Studio on 20th artist collective in Saskatoon and exhibits in Saskatchewan and abroad. She is represented by Nouveau Gallery in Regina and Black Spruce Gallery in Saskatoon and north. Her work can be found in many public, corporate and private collections around the world.
